Build Functional Strength with This Unique Heavy Club Move
Feb 04, 2025
Swinging levers is what has allowed humans to ultimately build and thrive as a civilization. Hammers built civilization, swords defended it.
And sword fighting was a common practice for thousands of years as humans developed throughout history.
Many of the movements we use in club swinging are derived from the motions of sword fighting. The Shield Cast, for example, is the motion you would use to defend your head and body from a oncoming strike, slash, or blow.
These movements, when done with the club, strengthen the natural rotational movement patterns that all humans are designed for and should practice.
One movement, the sword flare, is an actual sword fighting technique that can be used to strengthen the wrists, elbows, shoulders, and spine for more strength and resilience.
However, this exercise is not for beginners, and should only be performed after you accumulate proficiency with the single arm shield casts, inside and outside circles, and Mill and Reverse Mill.
